DATELINE: ATLANTA FIVE CENTS

Confederation of Dixie
Shows New Colors
New Dixie Flag

Today, Confederation of Dixie President Robert Turner unveiled a new national flag in Atlanta, designed in honor of the Outer Banks protectorate territories. "We have welcomed Virginia and the newly-unified Carolina into the fold, and the new flag is a visible affirmation of our brotherhood," said the Dixie President.

"The single blue bar represents unity and strength," said the President, adding "and each star represents every nation-state of our grand Confederacy."

Controversy, however, surrounds the new Dixie flag. While public statements from Atlanta claim that the flag was conceived of by local artisans, the persistent rumor is it was in fact developed by the Samson Advertising Agency of the Nation of Hollywood. Samson executives could not be reached for comment.

The unveiling ceremony in Atlanta was received with great enthusiasm by a cheering crowd. Each state - in addition to flying their own home colors - now displays the new "one-bar" flag, and the Winged Knights are already repainting their aircraft to incorporate the new national insignia.

"How many versions of the American flag did the old Federal government go through?" remarked Dixie air hero Colonel Beauregard "Rapier" Travis (an attendee and guest of honor at the ceremony). "I reckon we got it right on the second try."

While the general public - which ratified the adoption of the new flag in a recent vote - accepts the revised colors, others do not. A vocal group of protesters (some of them prominent members of the Dixie air militias) publicly criticized the Turner government for "changing the colors our forefathers fought, shed blood, and died for." The group's leader, Colonel Lemuel Fox of the 1st Dixie Air Militia, said, "The Dixie flag honored those who came before, and it is blasphemous for the government to change it. "
