Delays and cost over-runs after Fortune Hunter raid blamed

The Pacifica government today announced that they are canceling a multimillion-dollar contract with Boeing Aircraft and Hughes Aircraft for a line of improved Bloodhawk fighter planes. The contract was cancelled after weeks of delays and cost over-runs after the kidnapping of Drs. Wilhelm and Ilse Fassenbiender and the theft of the "Blue Streak" experimental fighter plane by internationally infamous air pirate Nathan Zachary and his Fortune Hunters.

The Fassenbienders were reportedly developing key systems of the "Blue Streak" project, and most of the plans for their systems have gone missing. The announcement also cited Boeing's poor security arrangements, currently under investigation by Pacifica's Office of Naval Intelligence. Boeing fired Blake Aviation Security after the raids and installed new security firm Sacred Trust Incorporated, but is completely reorganizing its own internal security system.

Despite these setbacks, it is considered unlikely that Boeing will lose any additional business from Pacifica, since Boeing supplies the bulk of the Pacifica Navy's zeppelin force and fighters.

Boeing had to shut down several area plants for over a week after the Fortune Hunter raid, due to supply depot damage, costing the Seattle economy an estimated $5 million Pacifica dollars overall. This shutdown in turn has delayed the production of dozens of planes and three zeppelins currently in construction at the Boeing zeppelin yards in Bremerton. Pacifica has posted a $20,000 reward for the arrest and return of Nathan Zachary to Pacifica authorities.
