Archipelago Now Graveyard

Pacifica, A.A.A.M. Take Losses

After a long period of mounting tensions and skirmishes, Pacifica has finally responded to the numerous public statements of independence from the Alexander Archipelago, located just south of Alaska. Fighters from the Pacifica zeppelin Baker mounted an attack against air bases established by the Alexander Archipelago Air Militia, destroying a number of them. However, the Archipelago was apparently home to far more smaller bases than larger ones, tucked into the nooks and crannies of the landscape.

An overwhelming response from remaining Alexander forces resulted in a staggering rebuff for the Pacifica Air Militia, which lost between a quarter and a third of their attack force. Many seem to believe that the Alexander Militia had advance warning of the attack, and shifted the majority of their planes away from the targeted bases. Alexander forces did not escape unscathed, though. Their forces also suffered a high casualty rate at the hands of the better-equipped Pacifica Militia, after the initial surprise of their appearance had been spent.

The freezing waters of the Archipelago and the terrain of the islands made survival a difficult prospect for any pilot unfortunate enough to ditch or hit the silk. Neither side is saying how many pilots are presumed dead in the aftermath of the battle, but both admit the number is too high for their taste.

This action by Pacifica, which also has been engaged in skirmishes with Hollywood on its southern border, has increased speculation that Pacifica may have plans to annex Alaska to gain its rich resources. A foothold in the Alexander Archipelago would be critical to any future Pacifica action in Alaska.
