The infamous Medusas pirate gang raided the Utah National Prison for Women late yesterday afternoon, freeing their former leaderAthena "Harpy" Jacksonand several other prisoners, according to Utah Corrections spokesman Jeremy Smith. The Medusa leader was shot down over Utah last year, and sentenced to a life term for aerial piracy, murder, and assault on militia officers.
The attack began with the detonation of a fuel oil truck on its regular delivery run to the prison, destroying the prison's main gate. When guards rushed to reinforce the breach, the Medusa gang landed autogyros in the prison yard, firing on defenders with personal weapons and strafing the area with cannons and rockets.
The Medusas blasted their way into the high security wing with high explosive rockets, injuring two guards, and shot three guards once inside. Witnesses identified Justine "Battleaxe" Perot, "Bold" Amanda Hart, Gertrude "Two-Guns" Puckett, and Mary "Long Shot" Longnecker as the ground team. Longnecker, a known crack shot, apparently wounded two of the guards, and Perot is believed to be responsible for the wounding of the third. In addition to Jackson, the Medusas freed twelve other felons, including convicted murderess Martha Lincoln, and notorious liquor smuggler Greta Frei.
A squadron of the Warriors of Deseret quickly responded to the escape alert, intercepted the Medusas over the Green River, and a fierce battle raged, ending in a Medusa escape. At last report the Medusas were fleeing east, probably to one of the many pirate airstrips of Colorado.
